Come join us as we host the inaugural Florida International Animation Festival, October 12-14 at Cinematique Theater in Downtown Daytona Beach’s Riverfront area.

Our kick-off night is followed by two days of hands-on workshops and screenings with the amazing talent of Phil Hillis, Graham Toms and Larry Lauria.  If you’re just an animation fan or a animator-in-training, this event will provide you with information on the latest techniques, celebrate icons of the industry and provide a networking opportunity.

Inaugural Florida International Animation Festival

October 12 – 14, 2012

 

Animators, students and the general public interested in Animation Art are invited to our very first Florida Animation Festival with Phil Hillis (Disney Imagineering), Graham Toms (Animation Training Academy – Ireland), and Larry Lauria (Former Disney Animation Manager, Island Animation.)  This hands-on series includes screenings, workshops and demonstrations. If you have questions about animation technique, software, or networking, this is the event for you!

 

Enjoy Cinematique Theater’s comfortable spaces as we host this unique festival for Northeast Florida.

“A CAT IN PARIS” Animation Panel:

Phil Hillis, Graham Toms, and Larry Lauria! Panel will discuss the state of animation today and the paths of their animation training.

SATURDAY WORKSHOP I

10am-12pm: ANIMATION WORKSHOP

Animation Basics A hands-on workshop that explores animation basics: weight, speed, timing, exaggeration, anticipation and more through a series of fun exercises.

 

12pm: SCREENING

John and Faith Hubley retrospective

(three time Oscar winners). The Hubleys were devoted to family and films. The Motion Picture Academy has decided to honor them with a special retrospective in celebration of their work. We will celebrate their art through films like WINDY DAY and MOONBIRD.

SUNDAY WORKSHOP I

10am-12pm: ANIMATION WORKSHOP

YouTube treasures There is a treasure trove of international, independent shorts available on the internet! We will show how to search for these gems and how to add them to your collection.

 

12pm: SCREENING Frederick Back

retrospective ( two time Oscar winner).

Back created some of the most beautiful animation ever. His works are moving paintings which reflect theculture and history of French Canada.

4pm-6pm: ANIMATION WORKSHOP

From 2D to CG AND BEYOND! Graham Toms, animator/artist will translate drawn and computer animation. Toms, a museum collected artist, will demonstrate the process with his interactive presentation.

 

6pm: SCREENING Chuck Jones

retrospective ~ centennial celebration

This marks the year of a world wide effort to

celebrate the four time Oscar winner. Join us as we screen classics like: WHAT’S OPERA DOC?,

DUCK DODGERS IN THE 24 ½ CENTURY, and ONE FROGGY EVENING. A question and answer session/discussion will follow the films.

4pm-6pm: ANIMATION WORKSHOP

Stop-Motion Animation with objects/people

Grab a camera and some friends learn to animate ordinary objects and people… be a part of the animation.

 

6pm: SCREENING Secret of NIMH

SECRET OF NIMH is the first feature film produced by the Don Bluth Studio.  Don and Gary left Disney Studios to rediscover the lost elements of classic animation. Gary Goldman, co-director will introduce the film via Skype from Tempe, Arizona.
